He started his career as a management engineer, analyzing operations, studying work process flow, and creating industrial engineering solutions. For the past 15 years, he has dedicated his life to Talent Development. He has been all over the world evaluating, creating, and implementing hundreds of talent development programs.

Alternative Delivery Methods & Preconstruction Planning Seminar

On February 9th, SMACNA of Long Island and Sheet Metal Industry Promotion Fund Estimators, Pre-Construction, Contract Managers and Project Managers attended a half day seminar entitled, “Construction Contracts - Alternative Delivery Methods & Preconstruction Planning.  The two-pronged seminar provided a brief overview of alternative delivery methods for construction contracts and, also covered in depth, preconstruction planning.  The seminar was delivered by Maxim Consulting Group’s Stephane McShane. It received outstanding reviews from all attendees

Project Communication Seminar
February 2022

SMACNA LI Contractors attended a Project Communication Seminar given by renowned speaker Kevin Dougherty.  This program takes a unique look at how improving communication and team work between design, estimating, project management, and production can and will improve profitability.

Some of the topics covered included:

  • The importance of preplanning and being prepared
  • The seven deadly sins of a bad job 
  • Identify the "rules" of the job 
  • The items you and your production team need before the job commences 
  • How to communicate with all 
  • How to have a good productive conversation 
  • Why Jobs make and lose money and what to do about it 
  • How to ensure that everyone in the kick-off meeting is prepared 
  • What determines the success of the job 
  • How will we measure job success 
  • Project close out documentation 
  • How to hold the field, project management, and estimating team accountable and to get production rate buy-in.

SMACNA LI Joint Meeting with ASHRAE LI  
January 2022

On January 11, 2022 our association held a joint meeting with ASHRAE LI.  SMACNA National Engineer Pat Brooks made a virtual presentation on Duct System Acoustics.   Pat’s presentation covered the fundamentals of calculating duct system acoustics.  The Engineers in attendance learned what noise is, how to mathematically combine noise levels is and how to control noise in duct systems.  Frequency and amplitude and how people perceive noise are important concepts that were also covered.  The attendees also learned the difference between sound power and sound pressure and how to convert sound power levels to sound pressure.  The range of hearing and the problems with low frequency noise vs high frequency noise was discussed.  Natural attenuation of duct elements and how to determine it was reviewed.  How to solve acoustic problems using distance, silencers and duct insertion losses were examined as well as how noise criteria (NC) levels are used.

NYS SMACNA Meeting 
August 2021


SMACNA Contractors and Chapter Executives from across New York State gathered at the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid, NY for 2 days of interesting, informative educational programs.  Guest Speakers included Attorney William Lowe who spoke regarding NYS Marijuana Legalization as well as the NY Hero Act,  SMACNA National Director of Labor Services & HR Joye Blanscett,, Lobbyist Denise Murphy McGraw, SMACNA National President Angie Simon, and leadership expert Don Riling.  One favorite session for all is the opening meeting, where contractors from each chapter provide reports on their respective areas.  This always leads to a great interactive discussion.

SMACNA of Long Island Supports the College of Fellows

SMACNA of Long Island made a $5000 contribution in support of the 2020 SMACNA College of Fellows Outing.  We applaud the COF mission to identify and recognize academically talented youth and potential future leaders within the SMACNA extended family and to provide them an opportunity to further their education and develop their talents as future leaders and positive contributors to society.

Association Spreads Holiday Joy

An ambitious committee was formed and the outing was a smashing success.  After donating $30,000 to the Contractors for Kids organization, golf outing committee members spread holiday joy by giving the remainder of our outing proceeds with smaller donations to the following organizations:  Basket Brigade, Mercy Center Ministries, Island Harvest, Habitat for Humanity Suffolk County and John Theissen Children Foundation.
